About us

The Health Emergencies Analytics Lab (HEAL) is an interdisciplinary research laboratory at Bocconi University, made possible by the generous support of the Romeo and Enrica Invernizzi Foundation. It gathers expertise from all Bocconi Departments — ranging from demography, epidemiology, and biostatistics to economics, management, political and social sciences — so as to generate knowledge that helps societies better understand and respond to health crises.

Originating from the Invernizzi Covid Crisis Lab created during the pandemic — which played a vital role in supporting health policy with timely data analysis, modeling and evidence-based recommendations — HEAL expands this mission to address a broader set of challenges at the intersection of health, behavior, society and policy. By combining rigorous scientific methodologies with an interdisciplinary perspective, HEAL aims to monitor and anticipate global health threats, foster resilience and inform more effective and equitable strategies for prevention and response.

HEAL’s research activities are supported thanks to dedicated funding provided by the Romeo and Enrica Invernizzi Foundation. The Invernizzi Foundation and Bocconi University’s relationship has deep and solid roots. Established over thirty years and based on common values and objectives, it has evolved into a true Partnership supporting scientific research, knowledge and progress. As Bocconi’s most significant donor, the Romeo and Enrica Invernizzi Foundation has played a central role in advancing research in the social sciences, strengthening the University’s PhD School and supporting generations of researchers.

Over the years, the Foundation has funded major initiatives, including the establishment of endowed Chairs in Development Economics, Computer Science, Behavioral Economics and Finance, and Innovation Management. It has also supported research centers such as ICRIOS and LEAP, as well as SDA Bocconi’s AGRI Lab. Lastly, it has backed strategic projects like HEAL (formerly the Covid Crisis Lab), BLEST and the “Una Scelta Possibile” scholarship program, promoting merit and social mobility. More recently, the Foundation has also contributed to the establishment and development of INSPIRE, Bocconi’s Center for Research on Innovation, Sustainability and Inclusive Growth, further strengthening the University’s capacity to address major societal and economic challenges through interdisciplinary research.

Through its strategic support, the Foundation demonstrates strong trust in the University and helps ensure Bocconi’s long-term independence and sustainability.
